Gotcha day album

A gotcha day photo book for your adopted dog or cat

Every year on the day your dog or cat came home, there is a new collar, a special treat...

From Street to Sofa: Bruno's First Year Home

For Bruno, from Meghna and Siddharth, Pune, on his first gotcha day. A fictional family.

  1. A fawn Indie dog with a white chest blaze and one floppy ear, asleep on a blue sofa in a sunlit living room.
  2. A woman crouches beside a fawn Indie dog outside a small chai stall on a wet street at dusk, holding out a biscuit.
  3. At night, a fawn Indie dog lies on a doormat by a front door while a man sleeps on the floor beside him under a thin blanket.
  4. A fawn Indie dog sits alert in a kitchen staring at a steel pressure cooker on the stove while a man laughs in the background.

Page by page
  1. Cover

A photo of your pet today with the year marked, such as From Street to Sofa: Bruno's First Year Home. You choose from three cover options in the preview.

  2. How I found my humans

  3. The first night home

  4. Then and now

Before and after pairs: the thin, nervous pup from the first week next to the sofa king of today. Photos are sorted by the date they were taken, so the book moves from the first day to now.

  5. All about me

The three words that describe your pet, their favourite thing in the world, and the one thing they do that nobody else's pet does. Family members appear the way your pet knows them: Mumma, Papa, Didi, Dadi.

  6. How I changed my humans

  7. Zoomies on video

  8. A letter for next year

The questions we ask
  1. What is your pet's name, and any nickname at home? Dog or cat?
  2. How did your pet come into your life? (tap: adopted from a shelter, rescued from the street, from a friend, from a breeder, born at home, found us)
  3. When did your pet come home, and how old were they? (pick a month and year, then tap: tiny puppy or kitten, under 1 year, 1 to 3 years, older, not sure)
  4. What was the first night home like?
  5. Pick 3 words that describe your pet (tap: naughty, lazy, foodie, drama queen, guard dog, cuddly, zoomies champion, shy, bossy, gentle giant, talkative)
  6. What is your pet's favourite thing in the world, and what do they do that nobody else's pet does? (tap: a toy, a food, a person, a spot in the house, car rides, the balcony, chasing crows, then add one line)
  7. What is one thing that changed in your life because of your pet?
  8. Optional: what would you write to your pet on the last page? Skip it and we draft a few lines for you to approve

  • A first gotcha day, or the fifth, with years of photos still sitting in the phone
  • Pets whose real birthday nobody knows, so the adoption day is the day you celebrate
  • A gift for a friend or sibling marking a year with their new dog or cat
  • Real-photo scrapbook: kraft paper, tape corners, paw-print doodles and handwritten-style captions
  • Soft pastel watercolour: gentle washes and rounded type framing your real photos
  • Desi folk-pop: bright borders inspired by Madhubani and Warli patterns
  • Minimal editorial: white space, full-page photos and small captions

Questions parents ask

Is it really free?

Making the book and saving the PDF is free. Printing is optional and paid, and we confirm the price and delivery date by email before you pay.

What happens to my photos?

Photo books are laid out on your device and the photos never leave it. For illustrated books, up to three photos are used once to draw the character and then deleted. See privacy.

What is a gotcha day, and why make a book for it?

It is the day your pet came home to you, their adoption anniversary. Many families celebrate it instead of a birthday, especially for Indie dogs and rescued cats whose birth date nobody knows. The book keeps the story of that day while you still remember it. Read more in our gotcha day guide.

Is my pet drawn, or are these my real photos?

This album uses your real photos throughout, so your pet always looks exactly like your pet. If you want your dog drawn as the hero of an illustrated story, see the dog adventure storybook.

Can we make one every year?

Yes. Each year's book starts from that year's photos and answers, so the series grows on your shelf: Year 1, Year 2, Year 3. If your pet's real birthday is known, the pet birthday book is the other yearly option.
