• brain_backupBack up the floor (writes only outside it)

  Sync lake/ + manifest/ to dest (pure-add, content-addressed), then verify by re-hashing sampled files at the destination. The verify can fail — that is the point.

• brain_capture_statusIs the capture machinery itself running?read-only

  Spool depth, heartbeat file ages (side-effect mtimes, never self-report), floor totals. Distinct from health: a backing-up spool is invisible to health until it becomes staleness.

• brain_getFetch + verify the raw lines behind a citationread-only

  Raw floor bytes for a cited span. Pass the citation's sha256 as expect_sha256 to verify; a mismatch is reported, never repaired.

• brain_healthPer-lane freshness — is the data current?read-only

  Origin-vs-floor staleness per lane. fresh = floor holds everything the agent's own files show; stale = the agent has content the recorder missed; unknown = unmeasured, NOT healthy (mandatory reason attached). The receipt lists files the agent has since deleted (or moved) that the floor still holds, each verified against the manifest when first noticed; `brain-mcp restore` (CLI) puts a session back.

• brain_recentRecent activity across all recorded agentsread-only

  Time-ordered recent messages, every row cited. An empty result states its coverage — silence never renders as an answer. Injected text and subagent transcripts are excluded unless asked for, as in brain_search.

• brain_searchSearch recorded history (cited or abstained)read-only

  Keyword (BM25) search over all recorded conversations. Every hit carries a mechanically verifiable citation; zero hits return an explicit abstention with coverage. role='user' returns what the PERSON wrote: text the harness injected under the user role (skill bodies, reminders, slash-command wrappers, compaction summaries, Codex context blocks) is excluded unless include_machine=True, and subagent transcripts are excluded unless include_subagents=True. since / until take an ISO date or timestamp. order='time_asc' reads a thinking trajectory.

• brain_sessionsBrowse recorded sessionsread-only

  Session cards (agent, span, message counts, floor file) for a date or range. A whole session's raw text is brain_get(file, [1, n]).
