About

smolagents is an open-source Python library whose agent logic fits in roughly a thousand lines. Its CodeAgent writes actions as code and can execute them in sandboxes such as Docker, E2B, Modal or Blaxel, while ToolCallingAgent uses JSON-style tool calls. Tools can come from MCP servers, LangChain or Hub Spaces, and agents can be shared through the Hugging Face Hub. Models can be local transformers or Ollama models, Hub inference providers, or OpenAI and Anthropic through LiteLLM.
