AI SEO in the UAE: How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI
To be recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI search in the UAE, make your pages crawlable and answer-first, then match the market's two languages. Publish clear English pages, add Arabic versions where your buyers search in Arabic, and keep your licensed company name and address identical everywhere. Let OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot read your site, claim your Google Business Profile, and check UAE data and advertising rules before you publish.
- Microsoft puts UAE generative AI use at 73.3% of people aged 15 to 64 in June 2026, the highest it tracks.
- Google sent 93.47% of the UAE's search referrals in September 2026, so classic Google SEO still feeds its AI answers.
- Google lists the UAE, Arabic and English as supported for AI Overviews and AI Mode. No public data shows which language prompts use.
- The federal data law has applied since January 2022. We could not confirm if its Executive Regulations have been issued since January 2025.
- Chalk Labs has not published any UAE client case or result. Its only published regional result is Meru Trophy in Bengaluru, India.
How do people in the UAE find businesses with search and AI?
People in the UAE use Google and AI tools side by side, so a business has to show up in both. The country had 11.3 million internet users in October 2025, which DataReportal puts at 99.0% of residents, a cap it applies to every country 1.
Google supplied 93.47% of search referrals in September 2026, with Bing at 3.96% and Yandex at 1.8% 2. A referral is a click from a results page to a site, so this is not a count of searches 3. It also leaves out AI assistants, which do not appear in StatCounter's search engine table.
AI use is unusually high. Microsoft's AI Economy Institute reports that 73.3% of UAE residents aged 15 to 64 had used a generative AI product by June 2026, the top figure among the economies it tracks, against 18.8% worldwide 4. The measure comes from Microsoft's own telemetry, adjusted for device share, internet access and population, and it counts any generative AI product, not ChatGPT alone 4.

Microsoft's AI Economy Institute reports that 73.3% of UAE residents aged 15 to 64 had used a generative AI product by June 2026, the highest of any economy it tracks, against 18.8% worldwide 4. We found no public data on how many of them ask AI assistants for local providers.
Should your pages be in English, Arabic or both?
For most businesses, publish English first and add Arabic pages for the services where Arabic-speaking buyers decide. Arabic is the official language, and Article 7 of the UAE Constitution says so 14. The US government's country guide says English serves as the business language, calls English-only promotional material acceptable, and says bilingual material gives an edge 12.
Expatriates make up much of the population, and Wikipedia reports that English is the most used language among them and in business 14. Arabic labelling matters most for consumer products and food, according to the same US guide 12. We found no study of which language UAE buyers use when they ask an AI assistant for a provider.
Google lists the UAE among the places where AI Overviews and AI Mode are available, and lists Arabic and English among the supported languages 56. The lists are separate, so they do not prove that an Arabic page wins an Arabic prompt. Run your own tests in both languages.
Keep each page in one language. Google says it reads the visible text to decide a page's language and recommends one language for content and navigation on each page 16. Link the two versions with hreflang, and give each version tags for itself and its twin, or Google ignores them 15. Our guide to doing AI SEO in several languages covers the set-up.
- <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-AE" href="https://yourdomain.ae/services/" />
- <link rel="alternate" hreflang="ar-AE" href="https://yourdomain.ae/ar/services/" />
- <link rel="alternate" hreflang="x-default" href="https://yourdomain.ae/services/" />
| Form | Example prompt | Where to cover it |
|---|---|---|
| English | best real estate agency in Dubai Marina | Main service page in clean English |
| Arabic script | أفضل شركة عقارات في دبي مارينا | A separate Arabic page, linked with hreflang |
| Arabic in Latin letters | afdal sharikat aqarat fi Dubai Marina | FAQ wording only, and only if your own data shows people type it. Gulf Arabic can be written this way in casual online writing 23 |
| English | {type} in {place} compared | Comparison page with the same facts for each option |
What do Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and ChatGPT need from a UAE site?
Generative engine optimisation in the United Arab Emirates comes down to access, clear answers and consistent business details. They need a page they can reach, read and show, and nothing more exotic. Google says there are no extra requirements or special optimisations for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and that a page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet 7. Our explainers on Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews show what each feature does.
For ChatGPT, the gate is OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot. OpenAI says it places sites in ChatGPT's search results and recommends allowing it in robots.txt, the file that tells crawlers what they may read 8. Changes can take about 24 hours to take effect 8.
Many sites block bots by accident through a firewall or a security plug-in. Run the AI Crawler Checker on your own domain, then read how to allow AI crawlers in robots.txt if anything is blocked.
Does a free-zone or mainland licence change your website SEO in the UAE?
Your licence type does not change how AI reads your site, but it can change which privacy rules sit behind your forms. The federal personal data law leaves existing data laws in the DIFC and ADGM financial free zones intact, according to DLA Piper 10. The US country guide adds that both zones have their own data protection authorities and legislation 13. The UAE government portal lists DIFC Law No. 5 of 2020 as a related law 9.
Consumer law works differently. The government portal says Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 covers suppliers, advertisers and commercial agents across the mainland and free zones 11. A free-zone company selling to UAE shoppers still needs honest prices and claims.
For your pages, name the licensed legal entity, the licensing authority and the registered address in the footer and on a company page. That is our advice, not a legal rule. It helps AI engines match your brand to one clear business, as entity SEO explains.
What should property and tourism businesses publish first?
Publish pages that carry the facts a buyer cannot get from a brochure: the price in AED, the exact area, your licence details and the date you last checked them.
Property has its own local tools. Bayut is a property classifieds site in English and Arabic and part of the Dubizzle Group 18. The Dubai Land Department runs the Trakheesi system and lets a customer verify the licences and permits it issues to real estate practitioners 19. Wikipedia lists the regulation of real estate advertisements in mass media among the duties of RERA, Dubai's real estate regulator 21. Ask the regulator which permit your ads need before you publish them.
The Land Department also publishes open data on transactions, rents, projects and valuations, which you can download as CSV files 20. A broker could turn that into honest area pages with dated figures. Check the licence terms of the data before you reuse it.
| Business type | First three pages | Also claim |
|---|---|---|
| Property brokerage | An area guide with dated figures; a buyer steps page with fees in AED; a page naming each licensed agent | Google Business Profile; Bayut |
| Holiday-home or hotel operator | A stay guide by district; a house rules and check-in page; a seasonal price page | Google Business Profile |
| Tour operator | Itinerary pages with duration, pick-up points and price in AED; a safety page; a cancellation page | Google Business Profile |
| Clinic | Service pages; a page naming each doctor and credential; a plain FAQ. Read YMYL content first | Google Business Profile |
| Company-formation consultant | A free zone versus mainland comparison with current fees; a timeline page; a documents checklist | Google Business Profile; LinkedIn |
Which platforms and directories should you claim first?
Claim the listings your buyers already use, and keep the name, address and phone identical on all of them. Start with Google Business Profile. Google says local results rest mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and that you cannot pay for a better local ranking 17. Reviews feed prominence, so ask real customers for them.
Which sites AI answers cite will vary by prompt and by emirate. Run your prompt list, write down every domain the answers name, and claim the top three first.
What do UAE privacy, consumer and advertising rules mean for your pages?
The federal data law reaches your lead forms. Federal Decree Law No. 45 of 2021 came into force on 2 January 2022, covers personal data handled through electronic systems, and bars processing without the owner's consent, with listed exceptions 9. The UAE Data Office is named as the federal regulator 9.
We could not confirm whether the Executive Regulations have been issued since January 2025. Ask a UAE lawyer.
Under the data law, people can object to direct marketing 10. DLA Piper also reads Cabinet Decision No. 56 of 2024 as requiring consent before marketing through social media messages 10. The government portal says suppliers who give unclear information or labelling, advertise misleading prices or false data, or fail to repair defective goods face up to two years in prison and a fine of up to AED 2 million 11.
Paid promotion falls under media rules. Wikipedia reports that a 2023 media law requires a licence for any media activity, and that a 2025 decree created a National Media Authority to replace the National Media Council 22. Those rules have moved, so check with the current media regulator before you pay anyone to promote you.
How does the UAE differ from the worldwide picture?
The clearest differences are AI use, the two-language question and licence rules. Google's share is a few points higher than worldwide, and mobile use is close to the world figure, so the same technical checks apply.
The core method stays the same. Answer-first pages, honest facts and crawler access matter here as they do anywhere, as how to get recommended by ChatGPT shows.
What do UAE buyers ask, and which page should answer each?
Write one page per real question, and open each with the answer. The table lists five modelled prompts, not observed ones, and each needs facts only you can give. Use the Query Fan-Out Explorer to see which searches an AI model runs for your own prompts.
| Modelled prompt | Page to publish | Facts to put in the first 75 words |
|---|---|---|
| Which free zone is best for a small consulting company in Dubai? | Free zone versus mainland comparison | Set-up cost range in AED, licence activities, visa limits, date checked |
| How much does a one-bedroom apartment in Business Bay cost to rent? | Area rental guide | Dated median rent from public data, service charges, typical contract terms |
| Best family dentist in Abu Dhabi that speaks Arabic and English? | Clinic page with a doctors' credentials section | Languages spoken, licence authority, services and prices in AED |
| What is the best time to visit Dubai with kids? | Seasonal travel guide | Months, temperatures from an official source, price ranges, opening hours |
| How do I find a reliable fit-out contractor in Dubai? | Buyer checklist and project page | Licence details, project size range, timelines, a named past project |
How do you check whether UAE buyers see you in AI answers?
Run the same prompt list in both languages, then check Search Console for UAE traffic. Set aside a morning for the first run, and repeat it monthly because answers change between runs.
- Write ten prompts a real buyer would type for your emirate and service. Make an English and an Arabic version of each.
- Run each in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode with the phone set to a UAE location. Record the date, the brands named and the domains cited.
- In Search Console, open the Performance report and use the Countries tab to see clicks and impressions from the UAE 24. Clicks on links inside AI Overviews and AI Mode count as ordinary clicks 25.
- Ask every new lead how they found you, with choices for ChatGPT, Google AI, Bayut and word of mouth. Self-reported attribution shows the form.
- Track AI referrals in Google Analytics 4 with this guide.
What has Chalk Labs actually done in the UAE?
Nothing we have published. Chalk Labs has not published any UAE client case or result, and this page does not imply one. Our only published regional result is Meru Trophy, a trophy and gifts shop in Bengaluru, India, which went from near-zero search visibility to 27,300 Google clicks and 2.3 million impressions in 16 months 26.
That result comes from Chalk Labs' own record of Google Search Console data. It counts Google clicks, not AI citations. What transfers to the UAE is the method: research the exact searches buyers use, write an answer page for each, and measure. The timeline does not transfer, because it depends on your competitors and your starting point.
Where should you start this month?
Start with access and identity, then publish a few answer pages and measure. Four weeks is enough for one full loop. We do not guarantee rankings or citations.
- Week 1, check access. Confirm robots.txt allows OAI-SearchBot and Googlebot 8, and test your key pages on a phone.
- Week 2, fix identity. Make your licensed company name, address, phone and hours identical on your site, Google Business Profile and each directory.
- Week 3, publish five answer pages for the questions in your prompt list, in English first. Open each with the answer in 40 to 75 words, as what an answer block is describes.
- Week 4, add Arabic versions of the two pages with the most enquiries, add a plain privacy notice to every form, then re-run your prompts and compare. The AI Readiness Score can spot gaps.
- For a local business, how to optimise a local business for AI search gives the longer plan.
Rules and platforms that shape results
Rules to know
- Federal Decree Law No. 45 of 2021 (personal data protection). In force since 2 January 2022. Covers personal data processed through electronic systems and bars processing without consent, with exceptions. The UAE Data Office is the federal regulator. We could not confirm whether the Executive Regulations have been issued since January 2025.9
- DIFC and ADGM data protection regimes. The two financial free zones keep their own data protection laws and authorities, which the federal law leaves intact.10
- Consumer protection law (Federal Law No. 15 of 2020, as amended). Covers suppliers, advertisers and commercial agents on the mainland and in free zones. Unclear information or labelling, misleading prices or false data, and unrepaired defects carry up to two years in prison and a fine of up to AED 2 million.11
- Cabinet Decision No. 56 of 2024 (telemarketing and electronic marketing). DLA Piper reads it as requiring consent before electronic marketing sent through social media messages. Confirm the current text with a UAE lawyer.10

What works in the United Arab Emirates
- Publish English pages first, then Arabic versions of your top enquiry pages on separate URLs, linked with hreflang tags such as en-AE and ar-AE 15.
- Name your licensed legal entity, licensing authority and registered address in the footer and on a company page, and keep them identical everywhere.
- Quote prices in AED and name the exact area, such as Dubai Marina or Business Bay, instead of writing only Dubai.
- For property, build area pages from dated public data such as the Dubai Land Department's open data, and show the date you checked it 20.
- Claim a separate Google Business Profile for each branch, and match it to your site 17.
Mistakes to avoid
- Machine-translating a whole site into Arabic with no fluent reviewer. Poor Arabic can hurt trust, and Google recommends one language per page 16.
- Publishing property ads without checking which permit the regulator expects 21.
- Assuming a free-zone licence removes consumer-law duties. The consumer law covers free zones too 11.
- Quoting data-protection rules from memory. The status of the detailed regulations was unclear in the sources we found 10.
Frequently asked questions
Does a UAE business need Arabic pages as well as English ones?
Not on day one for most businesses. The US country guide calls English-only promotional material acceptable in the UAE and says bilingual material gives an edge 12. Start in English, then add Arabic versions of your top enquiry pages, each on its own URL and linked with hreflang 15. Test Arabic prompts yourself.
Do free-zone companies need a different AI SEO approach?
The method is the same, but the privacy rules behind your forms can differ. DIFC and ADGM keep their own data protection regimes 1013. Consumer law covers suppliers and advertisers on the mainland and in free zones 11. Name your licensed entity and licensing authority on the site, and ask a lawyer which data rules apply.
Does the UAE data protection law apply to my website forms?
It covers personal data processed through electronic systems, such as names and phone numbers collected in a form, and it requires consent unless an exception applies 9. We could not confirm whether the detailed regulations have been issued since January 2025. Add a clear notice and ask a UAE lawyer about the current position.
Which AI assistant should a UAE business focus on first?
How long does it take to be recommended by AI in the UAE?
There is no fixed time, and we have no UAE data. Chalk Labs' only published regional result, Meru Trophy in Bengaluru, built up over 16 months of search-led work 26. That is one case, not a forecast. Treat any promise of results in days with caution. We do not guarantee outcomes.
